Comic in the comic

The section where Vladek's father talks with him about finding and reading the comic book he made about his mother's suicide is very dark, it seems like at the time of its creation he had a obscure interpretation of the death through the comic. I also like how the piece was introduced and then shared within the story.

Its interesting how different the style used is, whereas in Maus everything is rather placid, and the other one is really trippy.

I definitely enjoyed this section as well.. although, did anyone notice in that comment it mentions that Art had just been released from either a psychiatric ward or a mental institution of some sort? I found that really interesting, and wanted to know why he had been there (admittedly I am still working to finish the book, so perhaps I just haven't reached that part yet?). I thought that this could be really important to note a possible thread of mental illness through out the family. It appeared that Anja had problems with depression or something of that nature for most of her life (ie. when Vladek first meets her and sees all of the pills in her closet) and then obviously takes her own life. It makes me wonder if Vladek might have any illnesses and how this affects his attitude towards Art and Mala?
