I really liked Vladek's character immediately and throughout the book. I think it is because he is so "real." He's not necessarily written to be liked or not, I don't think. He's a genuine person with positive attributes and flaws. He's unreasonable and hates his wife, and yet it is charming, because we know where he's coming from and get the sense that it's all coming from a pure and honest place. He's relatable. I think that's important.
